San Juan is the perfect vacation spot for both experienced travelers and novices. Visitors get all of the benefits of this beautiful island--rain forests; stunning views; sparkling, warm water; and a breezy, relaxing island environment--without a lot of the hassle of traveling overseas. Puerto Rico is also home to most of the world's bioluminescent algae, which causes the water to glow in certain bays off of the island. A visit to San Juan provides the perfect balance of old culture and new luxuriousness. One of the best things about a visit here, aside from the beautiful beaches, is the ease with which travelers can visit. Americans don't need a passport or to convert their money, and most residents and workers speak fluent Spanish and English. It's the ideal vacation spot for either a quick getaway or a longer break from the hustle and bustle of life.

Just OK

Spent a week in Puerto Rico with a group of friends and while we absolutely enjoyed our time on the island (scuba diving, kayaking in Bio bay, sailing, ziplining, Arecibo) the few times we ventured out to San Juan were unremarkable. Sure, it is historic and nice to stroll around, check out the fortress (free parking right at the entrance! don't spend time driving around trying to find a parking spot in the old town as we did). Good pina coladas everywhere, very forgettable super greasy, always fried food.
I'd never traveled outside of the US, so this was the perfect vacation for me! I got to experience an international island feel without having to have a passport or deal with customs. It's such a beautiful and friendly place!
This is a fantastic place to visit because is full of life, history, and beautiful beaches. Almost everywhere in San Juan you are going to find a recreational area, where everything is green and the breeze is not cold or hot but warm and relaxing. San Juan is a city of history, and you can tell by the strong structures that stand still next to the modern buildings. The beaches in San Juan are amaz
