Description

A visit to Heviz in Hungary is like taking a vacation in a giant bubble bath. It's Europe's largest thermal lake. It's dotted with beautiful water lilies and lined along the bottom with mud that's believed to have medicinal healing powers. The area's naturally pampering environment has made it the go-to destination for spa treatment since the 4th century BC. Now, formal spas and vacation houses make up the majority of the village. When you're not partaking in the natural goodness of the lake, you can take advantage of the healing powers of exercise: hiking the northern hills, sailing, and swimming are all popular pastimes for natives and guests. And what is a good spa week without some quality wine to complement it? The northern hills in Heviz are famous for their wines, and wine tours allow visitors to sample the whole spectrum. Because native Hungarians flock to Lake Balaton for holidays, as well, many of the accommodations are in private, rentable houses. This allows visitors to enjoy some quiet isolation in a private home at a price that suits their budget.
