Description
If you can pull yourself away from lying on the exquisite, tranquil, and glistening beaches of Honolulu, you'll notice everything else that Honolulu has to offer. You'll see the dramatic cliffs and extinct volcanoes. The arts scene and museums. The tiki-lit beaches and near-perfect surfing. The shopping, the rain forests and the "aloha" feeling that you won't want to leave behind when you fly home. Honolulu, glamorized in countless films and photos, is the quintessential relaxation retreat.

Drive to the North Shore
09/30/13Rather than Honolulu, I would say OAHU. Honolulu is a nice city and Waikiki a must see (loving the waves breaking by the pools), but my favourite in Oahu: North Shore. Drive up north towards Waimea Bay and be ready to "chillax" with the locals and travellers from all over, enjoy the surf, rent a bike, hike to the falls, freedive with sea turtles and enjoy the reef. Nature, laid-back atmosphere and really nice people. Go north.
Busy busy busy...
09/18/13Whow, Honolulu... what a name... Ok, the beach is white, the waves are high, you find a lot of young surfers, but... nothing special to see and there is also a huge bunch off people. Go to other more beautiful places on the Big Island than only Waikiki beach!! The volcanic landscape and a lot off other beaches are just amazing, hire a car and go!! There is only one way ;-)
Honolulu - Beautiful, but Busy!
09/09/13I visited Honolulu in May of 2012. The view along Waikiki beach is stunning and feels almost surreal when looking at skyline containing Diamond Head mountain, as you've likely seen it on a t.v. show or movie. The only drawback of Honolulu, and Waikiki beach in particular is that it is very touristy and almost gives off a Vegas-like vibe (not a bad thing, but I definitely did not expect it!).
My tips for Honolulu: Try surfing! (but go for a lesson with a professional), paddle boarding is harder than it looks and the boards are super-heavy to carry to the beach, you have to try Spam (especially Spam sushi) at least once and try checking out Sans Souci beach which is a bit less crowded than Waikiki beach.

my mom sent me there for my graduation from high school and i went many years later when my navy son =was stationed there.
Waikiki Beach is stunning. Absolutely stunning. The sand is white, the water is CRYSTAL clear, warm and wonderful. Honolulu has everything....all the big-city amenities you may want from world class golf and shopping to spas and restaurants as well as delightful neighborhood "joints" that you wouldn't find unless a local told you to check it out. The worst thing about Honolulu? Having to board that plane to go back to the mainland!
Me and my husband got married on the beach at an extremely reasonable price. Stunning views. Honolulu can be a bit busy at times, but still beautiful. The hotel we stayed in was right off the beach, had tons of shops, and fireworks nightly. ALL of the hawaiian islands are beautiful and definantly worth visiting!
