Description

It's a city that has been fought over, taken over, fought over and taken over again. And again. If history has taught us anything, it's that Geneva, Switzerland is a city worth fighting to get to. The second you get to Geneva, you'll see what all of the hype was about. Naturally, it's one of the most beautiful places in the world. Nestled on the western shore of Lake Geneva, enclosed by snowcapped mountain peaks, and totally explorable on foot, Geneva is the definition of beauty. And though this European city has a history of being fought over, it's the birth place of the United Nations, and will probably be the most peaceful vacation you've ever taken. And as if the stunning nature in Geneva isn't enough, the architecture rivals it in artistic beauty. Saint Peter's Cathedral is at the top of one hundred and fifty seven steps and worth each and every step. At the top of the north tower, you'll find a panoramic view of the entire city and lake, and that's in addition to the history and art that you'll find inside of the actual cathedral. If you can tear yourself away from gawking at the pure elegance of Geneva, you'll find a variety of museums for people interested in everything from archaeology to art to science to religion and to nature. But, let's be honest, no trip is complete unless your appetite is adequately satiated, and you won't be disappointed in this city of culinary masters.

I visited my family in Geneva for a 5 day trip.

First of all, the language in Geneva is French, not German!

If you are going to go to Geneva... be prepared... it is EXPENSIVE! We went to a downtown festival of India, and a small plate of veggies and rice was about 14 franks. The festival itself was very nice, althought seemed very commercialized... Lots of advertising for people to go traveling to India, not a lot of information, activities, etc.

The flower clock: Don't bother. It's a clock. On the ground. With some flowers.

As part of the "Fêtes de Genève", we also saw the Fireworks display, which was amazing, but I couldn't help but think about how much it was polluting... That was just me, though. Walking around the city was pleasant, although I don't think it was anything spectacular.

"The Fountain"? It was... off the whole time we were there.

The French Alps in the distance were beautiful, though.

My favorite part was seeing all the important building. There's just something special about looking at this buildings and trying to imagine what goes on inside them.
