Description

Fort Myers offers everything you'd expect from a Florida coast city and so much more. Soft sandy beaches, warm Gulf of Mexico water and a breezy environment make it Florida, but the world-famous deep-sea fishing and golf make it uniquely Fort Myers. Whether you want to participate in either of those adventures, or you'd rather shop, sunbathe, or hop from museum to historical estate, Fort Myers promises to leave all its guests smiling.

White sand galore!

09/26/13
Having grown up in the Pacific Northwest, this was our first time to visit an ocean beach without rocks, driftwood, and bright white sand. And the sea shells, all in tact! For us it was amazing. While we can't prove it, we think Ft. Meyers rates in the top percentage of personally owned BMW's....they were everywhere.

We did enjoy the the dining choices...particularly the Polish restaurants. Man they were good!

Lots of Sun, A Little Geek

This quiet little area of Florida deserves more visitors. It has everything, beautiful beaches, fun hotels and sights to see!

My top tourist attraction recommendation is The Edison House. The grounds of his estate have his personal home, gardens and laboratory plus a museum with some Henry Ford memorabilia thrown in. A great place to geek out!

If you just want to lazy away at the beach (perhaps while you send the kids to The Edison House for extra credit, you can catch up on some sun and reading on the sand) the place to go is right outside your hotel door. A kitschy hotel to stay at is the Pink Shell Hotel. This kid-friendly place has a pool, beach, fun decorations and even pink shells on the beach towels.

Just outside of Fort Meyers is the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point in Bonita Springs. This is for the little more staid crowd. The grounds are beautiful and the (the food yummy!). They even have their own island!

Lovely, lovely place. 2nd most beautiful sunsets I've ever seen (1st was Maui...hard to top!) The beaches have many seashells, lovely to walk around and find new treasures. Laid back, relaxing time....unlike the see and be seen vibe of South Beach or Lauderdale. If you want to get away, this is a great spot!
