Charleston is a lovely old city with a small town feel. I loved the southern food, hospitality, and taking horse and carriage rides to tour the sights. The architecture is fascinating, as are the outlying plantations. Stay here a few days, then stay at Kiawah Island, about an hour outside of Charleston. Here you can play golf, tennis, cycle around the island, and visit one of the best spas in North America.

I grew up in the south so I never recognized the unique attributes associated with Charleston. We lived nearby so we visited frequently and it was just another place to me. This is one of the friendliest southern cities, full of local charm, beautiful landscapes and old-world American architecture. Go visit!
