Description

You think you've seen waterfalls before? That's really sweet. But, unless you've been to Victoria Falls, you, my dear, have not. To give you a reference point, Victoria Falls (also known as Mosi-oa-Tunya or "The Smoke That Thunders") is twice as tall as Niagara Falls. What you'll see depends largely on what time of year you choose to visit. In the rainy season (winter), you'll see a massive sheet of water thundering over the cliffs. In the dry season (summer), you'll see less water flowing, but you'll get a better view of the rocky ledges beneath. And if you are lucky enough to visit during a full moon, you'll catch a rare "moonbow" when the light of the moon produces and lunar rainbow through the water. For the dare devil, white water rafting nearby is world famous and you can even stand on the edge of the falls when the water isn't flowing as quickly. Imagine looking over a 110-meter curtain of falling water! Victoria Falls, the town, basically exists to make tourists' visits as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. The range of hotels, restaurants, and even markets is varied to suit any taste.

Serious falling water

09/20/13
The falls is the definition of spectacular--spray that looks like smoke rising that you can see for miles and miles, thundering sound, and rainbows everywhere. Too bad that awesome is an overused word because Victoria Fall truly is that and more. I visited the park, a pleasant walk (wear rain gear and protect your camera from the spray), and later took a helicopter flight to get a bird's eye view. Just WOW. The town is small but fine and the tourist police--many of them female--made me feel comfortable and welcome, as did most of the local people.
