Description

If you're the kid who dreamt about visiting the North Pole, relaxing with penguins and visiting with Santa Claus, you know that you had to give that nonsense up as you became an adult. Well, maybe not. While you may not get to visit with Santa Claus, you can get the dog sleds, snowmobiling, steep snowcapped mountains, and chilled scenic coastline that you may have dreamt about as a child in Northern Norway. It's Europe's northernmost region and it sits on the Arctic Circle. Its low population has kept the natural world in Northern Norway pristine and picturesque. The Arctic Sea hasn't been frozen since the ice age ended, so wildlife and fishing is plentiful. Similar to Alaska, Northern Norway has constant daylight from April to July. Although seeing the midnight sun is a memorable experience, a trip in October, February or March will likely give you a stunning view of the northern lights, something most people will only dream of seeing in their lifetimes. The city offers comfortable accommodations and even a bustling nightlife, but, not surprisingly, the best part of your trip will be everything you do in the natural outdoors-from adventure sports to rich historical artifacts.

Amazing - period

09/11/13
I went in mid April, just before the tourist season hit so many fjord cruises and other touristy things were not running yet. Still, I really enjoyed my time, marveling at the snow banks twice my height in Tromso, the colorful buildings lining up canals in Trondheim, and unparalleled beauty of Svalbard. Just GO!
