Description

We don't want to make you feel bad for never having visited Maasai Mara National Reserve or anything, but the two million wildebeest that pass through the park every year do have one up on you. Of all of the wildlife reserves in Africa, Maasai Mara is probably one of the most famous thanks to this incredible migration, and that's not even all that the reserve has to offer. It covers 1,800 square kilometers and is home to every kind of animal you can imagine-zebras, lions, cheetahs, leopards, monkeys, baboons, hippos, crocodiles, elephants, buffalo. Okay, we think you get the point. This will blow any zoo visit out of the water. If you get tired of game viewing, which is hard to do in this dynamic reserve, you can add some (more) adventure to your visit with a hot air balloon safari. But don't forget to bring your camera with you EVERYWHERE, because a sunrise or sunset across the African plains is a site you'll want to remember for the rest of your life.

Great Guide, Great Group, Fantastic Experience!

    09/23/13
What made our trip great to the Massai Mara was our hotel location and having a great group on our game drives. Here are a couple of suggestions based on my experience and what I have heard.
    1) Stay in the Mara: I knew someone who stayed outside the Mara and they had to register each day they entered. Whereas we just registered once.
    2) Fly there: My friend also drove to the Mara from Nairobi and said is was a long, hot, dusty drive. We flew out of Wilson airport. It was a beautiful flight and a great way to see Kenya.

Hotel: We stayed at the Mara Serena Safari Lodge. Loved the hotel, the food was very good, and had great game drives. We also had Breakfast with the Hippos (a surreal experience in the middle of the Mara) and Cocktails at Sunset (which was amazing as the sun set).

We had a great group on our four game drives - we all got along well, wanted to see the same things, and still keep in touch today. There were six of us total on our drives which was perfect number of people. I also liked that we had the same guide and the same 4 other people for all of our four drives.

    Amboseli and tsavo est park

    09/21/13
I would like to go to Masai Mara, but when I've been in Kenya, it was low season and there were not people to go to Masai Mara, so with my cousin we decide to visit the Tsavo Est and Amboseli Park.
It was great, like in a documentary, we saw a lot of animals and differents landscape, I was too excited when in Amboseli started to rain, and I saw a big rainbow with the snowy Kilimangiaro mountain... It was awsome!!!

    The Great Migration

The wildebeest, zebra and gazelle begin to cross the Mara River during July and return to the Serengeti during November, thereby making July to October a peak season with spectacular migration crossings and increased numbers of wildebeest and zebra in the open plains.

    Planning Tip

Some travelers elect ground transfers from Nairobi. Other options include Airkenya or Safarlink that offer air service to Maasai Mara from Nairobi's civilian Wilson Airport (WIL).
