And while you may be tempted to question Kerala's humility, one visit to this Indian state will make it perfectly clear that it's about as close to perfect of a place as it comes. No matter where you look, your eyes are greeted by fantastic sites-networks of rivers, the Arabian Sea, the Western Ghats, pristine beaches, emerald water. Not only is Kerala beautiful, it's an astonishingly advanced society. The state has one hundred percent literacy, world-class health care systems, incredible life expectancy rates, and the highest physical quality of life. And how does this affect you as a tourist? It's one of the only places in the world where tourists don't have to worry about being cheated by locals. The high culture doesn't stop at peaceful living. Kerala has incredible historic ties to the world's largest religions. It is also famous for classical and ancient dance, musical, dramatic, and martial arts. Get to Know the Culture

09/24/13
I lived in Kerala for one month and it was the time of my life. While there, I was living in a homestay with a yoga master and taking lessons with a local medicine man. So I cannot rave about the traditional tourist spots, but I can say that the culture and community in Kerala is like nothing you can even imagine. I would highly recommend stepping away from the typical tourist point of view, and take advantage of the opportunity to get to know the real India. You'll learn more about this country than you will read in any guide book. And who knows, maybe you'll learn a thing or two about yourself while you're at it. I know I did.
