The gateway to New Zealand's south island, Christchurch, is packed with memorable vacation activities for visitors. With mild weather year-round, there's no bad time to make your trip to this beautiful New Zealand city. Although there are plenty of museums, parks, and galleries to fill your time, Christchurch's natural setting is stunning enough on its own. It's nicknamed "The Garden City" because of the incredible number of trees and the botanical gardens full of exotic and indigenous plants. And perhaps the best part of Christchurch is its location on South Island giving visitors easy access to beaches, national parks, wine country, fishing, whale watching, and even natural hot pools.

Dont miss this city !!

Christchurch may be a small city packed with students and may not offer more than Auckland or Wellington, but from here you are basically right in the middle of South Island and you can head anywhere!!! visit CHCH for few days and explore the quaint and friendly city packed with coffee shops, backpackers, students and friendly people, prepare all your gear, and go explore !!!
I started a 14 day 'glamping' (car-camping) tour of the south island heading north to Kaikura, Marlborough sound, Abel Tasman (OMG !!! if you don't go there you wasted your trip!) and Golden Bay. I would wake up to the most incredible views every morning!
Then I headed south on the west coast to Greymouth (with reminded me of the beach scene of The Piano) Mount Cook (WOW!) and the lakes region. your camera will run out of memory card! Recharge and pamper yourself in posh Queenstown (extremely popular and famous for winter sports) and take a magical drive to Milford Sound (read my review there- and please PLEASE PLEASE respect our fellow bikers on the road!). Then head back east and north and see how many millions of sheep you can count! This region of Canterbury is beautiful and offers amazing views to the mountains which are famous and made even more famous by films like "Lord of the Rings'. Heaven.
The region is an outdoor heaven: from hiking, biking (bicycle) bungee, horses, skiing, boating, camping, rock climbing, glaciers, spas, etc...

Nice place but because of the earthquake all city are trying to do everything again .
